Bladder Leaks And Ways To Manage Them

Bladder leaks can be a surprising and challenging symptom of menopause: 1 in 3 women experience bladder symptoms related to menopause, so it’s more common than you might think, and it’s important to know there are ways to manage it.

Leaking becomes more common as we get older, especially if you’ve had children. There are two common types of leakage, and you may experience both:

  • Stress incontinence – leaking when you cough, sneeze, exercise, or laugh. Some women leak urine during sex. One of the most effective ways to manage stress incontinence is by strengthening your pelvic floor muscles through exercises like Kegels. These exercises help support the bladder and can reduce leakage over time.
  • Urge incontinence – when you need to get to the loo urgently but don’t make it in time. Bladder training can help with this.

Check out this video from Pelvic Relief founder and physio expert Eleanor Gardner where she shares invaluable tips and advice on managing stress and urge urinary incontinence, including a guide to pelvic floor exercises and bladder training.
