How did we arrive at this assessment?

To assess where you are in the menopause transition, we have looked at your answers to the questions including age, bleeding pattern, symptoms, previous gynaecological surgery, hormone use, and more. For your symptoms in particular, we used the Greene Climacteric Scale (GCS). This is a verified measurement tool that is used by practitioners internationally, and that we have reproduced with permission.

Studies have shown that women who score over 12 on the GCS are likely to be menopausal, but it’s possible to score lower than this and still be menopausal.

The symptoms don’t all happen at the same time during the menopause transition, so the scale just gives a snapshot of how things are for you at the moment. This is a good reason to repeat the questionnaire after 6-12 months (or sooner if you feel that your symptoms are rapidly changing).

Your Greene Climacteric Scale score is

This means that you’re not displaying any symptoms of perimenopause or menopause that are included in the GCS.

While our questionnaire is a wonderful tool, remember it’s not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. Please speak to your GP or one of the doctors in our menopause clinic if you have concerns, questions or queries about any of your answers.

Think about your lifestyle and, if relevant, work environment

It's good to look at our lifestyle at any stage of life. Exercise is a great place to start, as is looking at your diet and alcohol intake. The NHS can help you stop smoking if you would like to quit.

If you work, you could think about your work environment too. For example making sure you have access to water, a fan or an open window in case you start to experience hot flushes.

We’ve teamed up with a range of health and wellness experts to help you get the most out of life before, during and after menopause. Learn more about our partners here.

Keep track of your results

Most women find that their symptoms change as they approach and go through the menopause transition. For this reason, we recommend retaking the questionnaire in 6-12 months (or sooner, if your symptoms are changing more quickly). If you haven't already, it’s a good idea to create an account on our website so that you can save your results and compare them over time.

Why not share our Menopause Questionnaire?

We love helping women better understand the menopause, their symptoms and what they can do to treat them. Also, every women who completes our questionnaire will contribute to our collective understanding of women's experience of the menopause. The more women of different ages, ethnicities and backgrounds that complete our questionnaire, the better our collective understanding will be.
